In 1873 it was established over the Capraia Colonia Criminal Agricola, later renamed to "House of Labour al'Aperto" to become "house Reclusione of Capraia Island." The Ministry of Justice with Decree of October 27, 1986 No 607511 gave the ìavia the closure of the house of imprisonment of Capraia Island with effect from October 31, 1986
The structure of prison was composed of more complex building called with the name "Branches." The "Master" was the centre of management and administrative offices of prison. There accessible today passing under two arches from which sees the Torre del Porto and the house of Director, transformed now into the town of Capraia.
